A common misconception of Lung Cancer is that it’s just a smoker’s disease. Whilst smoking is a leading cause, non-smokers can also develop lung cancer due to factors like air pollution, genetic predisposition, and second-hand smoke. This Lung Cancer Awareness Month we encourage you to familiarise yourself with the main signs and symptoms of this disease, so you can protect yourself and your loved ones.

We spoke with Dr Dionysis Papadatos-Pastos, a consultant oncologist who treats patients for lung cancer at The London Clinic:

“Early lung cancer often has no symptoms. When present, symptoms may include persistent cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, unexplained weight loss, hoarseness, or coughing up blood. Many people mistake these signs for other conditions like a cold or infection, delaying diagnosis.”

Dr Papadatos-Pastos is clear in his message: Early diagnosis is key. At The London Clinic, we offer low-dose computed tomography (LDCT), which screens for early-stage lung-cancer, and we have advanced treatment options for patients.

“Many believe lung cancer has poor outcomes, but advances in targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and precision medicine have significantly improved survival rates and quality of life for many patients.”
